Fisantekraal Reading Programme

Jer. 29:7, 11-14 NIV "Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper."
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD."

OBJECTIVE
To uplift and educate the youth in Fisantekraal and the surrounding community by providing them with language skills in English and Afrikaans. This end is to enable them to reach their full potential as God has planned for them. We hold as a team the blessings of a Christ-filled life and a stronghold onto our belief to be a blessing to the world.

GUIDELINES
Fisantekraal High school (Grade 8 – 12) is a relatively new school that opened in 2012 and has approximately 1300 learners. The Church of Christ / Mpact Ltd programme started in 2015. The programme was the brainchild of Dereck Beukes, who saw a need and appealed to the church for teacher volunteers. Resources were a challenge as without the necessary funds the programme could not survive. This is where Mpact Operations, a national packaging company, stepped in and provided the funding needed to run the programme for items such as stationery, teacher training, feeding programme, etc.

Most of the teachers in the programme are members of the Church of Christ but over the years, friends and family have joined in. Each year an appeal is made to the congregation for volunteers to join the programme so there are always new faces together with long standing teachers who have been there since the inception. Every teacher receives a booklet at the start of the year containing all the lesson plans for the year so that they can prepare each week’s lesson at their own pace. Full support, guidance and mentorship is given to all new teachers no prior experience is needed. All that is required is a serving heart, passion for developing young minds and patience. We provide copies of all the lessons handed out to learners each week. The programme runs from 8:30am to 11h00 each Saturday of the school term, excluding school holidays, public holidays and test / exam periods.

A “Buns & Butter“ team run the kitchen and provide hotdogs/hamburgers, fruit and a beverage to each learner after the completion of each lesson. This is run by members of the church and a roster of volunteers is drawn up for the year. This ministry illustrates the high quality of support in education and cooperation between business and Church to impact (MPACT) the community
