Ministry System

The Bellville Church of Christ is a servant-driven congregation and strives to resemble the body of Christ. Our congregation is a place a to worship together and to serve each other and those still seeking the Lord’s salvation.

All Christians have special spiritual gifts that are blessings to the church. Our Ministry System is where your talents can be used to the glory of God and where you will feel fulfilled serving in our congregation.

As the Lord blesses us with a growing congregation, our workload increases. The church’s Ministry System is designed to facilitate the distribution of responsibilities evenly, enhancing your spiritual growth and giving your involvement practical meaning as you walk with the Lord.

Facilitators lead our 19 established ministries. Each ministry is autonomous operating within a mutually accountable framework, determined by our congregational structure, in support of the mission of Christ. Teams continually evaluate their performances to ensure we are achieving our best for His Kingdom and we celebrate where God’s church is being served well.

Collaboration drives the success of each ministry and the Ministry System as a whole. An Action Group committee, representative of all ministries, directs the teams and is committed to execute its decisions to benefit the congregation.

This committee meets monthly to discuss initiatives and where and how ministries dovetail, maintaining a mutually accountable mindset. Ministers, elders and deacons are regularly consulted at these meetings.

Decisions requiring congregational approval are raised at formal congregational meetings, where full accountability is given to maintain open dialogue and transparency.

How to get involved with a ministry

There is place for all Christians to be involved in our church. Read the description of each ministry and volunteer to serve one where your skills match.

Contact the ministry facilitator. If you are unsure where you fit in, we will guide you or pick more than one ministry and see where your preference lies.

Our passion is to engage those seeking a meaning and significance in life, by serving an awesome God, and being part of His plan for our world.

Leadership Development and Ministry Teams

We have embraced a ministry-driven Church

All congregations face a similar challenge: few people doing too much. A ministry-driven church seeks to meet the needs of its congregation: the reason why Christ died for us. Our open Ministry System maximises efficiencies of our congregation and encourages participation.

Our objective is to make a difference. Ministry teams direct us to meet that goal and this information booklet will assist in:

  • Identifying where we are as a congregation.
  • Observing each of the ministry’s functions as a team.
  • Highlighting the streamlining of our organisation for effective ministry, stewardships and communication.

This overview of our structure includes descriptions of serving areas. The system offers an organic platform for Christians to truly experience ministry. Ministry teams add joy to your life as each completed task provides a feeling of accomplishment while breaking the 80/20 rule: 20% of the congregation doing 80% of the work.

Leadership development

Strong leadership development is essential for an effective and healthy, growing community. Among the many models available, none is better than the one modeled by Jesus. Our Ministry System empowers Christians to be a part of our congregation’s success reinforcing that everyone is vital to the work of the church.

The ministry system is a growing, organic transformational encounter with Jesus Christ as the sole role model for leaders. Within this dynamic working model:

  • Each member of the congregation discovers if they are a servant leader or a self-serving leader.
  • You will learn about your own heart and unearth your ability to change into what Christ wants to see happen in His church.
  • You will engage in spirituality-envisioned ministries designed for the building up of the church, in love.
  • Leadership development is achieved by applying the servant/leadership model of Jesus Christ.

The above diagram details the process to help new members become part of our congregation and provides a distinct path that enables spiritual growth. The objective is to empower members to grow into Christ’s vision for each member. Each step is designed to create space and opportunity to develop your spiritual gifts to contribute to the wellbeing and growth of our congregation, of which you are an integral part.

Ephesians 4:11-14 - 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Our leadership encourages a healthy spiritual diet of the Word of God with appropriate Biblical serving opportunities to build the hearts of new Christians that reflect Christ.
